Christmas is almost upon us, a wonderful time of the year
¨ Gillian Bremner, Chief Executive of PSO was the guest speaker at the APW meeting
¨ The next Cafe lunch will be at the Shiel Hill Tavern at 12 noon on 23 November

¨ First Church congregation attended as guests, The Reformation Sunday service at Knox Church on Sunday 26th October. The service was followed with a friendly lunch prepared by Knox congregation. We were then presented with a collage of photos taken at our joint services, which were held at First Church while a sprinkler system was installed at Knox church. - Thank you to our Knox friends.
Our prayers are with those sitting exams.

NEWS FROM SESSION
Session has called a congregational meeting on the 9th November following the 10am service in the Church. This meeting is to confirm the Session recommendation that:" The Reverend Anne Thomson be confirmed as half time associate Minister at First Church for a period of 12 months from 1 January 2009."
The AGM was held on 19 October and everyone was pleased with the outcome and the budget for this financial year - Good work.
The Reverend Tokerau Joseph ,Senior Minister will return in December from his study leave.

APW REPORT

October Meeting
The guest speaker was Gillian Bremner, Chief Executive of Presbyterian Support Otago. She gave a thoughtful and positive insight into the valued place in society for older people and the kinds of services and support that is available. She said that there have been a number of changes in the Aged Care Sector giving New Zealanders more choices about the way they spend their older years. She also said that Politicians, the Department of Health and Hospital Boards need to be questioned about their policies. Do they have specific policies to address these fundamental changes?

November Outing Tuesday 18th ( leaving First Church at 1-1.15pm
We will drive to Milton to visit the Finch Museum. This will be followed by afternoon tea at the home of Elsie and Bruce Stewart. Contact Nan ( 455 6099) or Dorothy (473 9950) for details

SEPTEMBER CONCERT-THANK YOU
APW sincerely thanks all who willingly gave practical assistance for this occasion. It was a real team effort. The Rest Homes do appreciate the help that is provided when they bring their residents to Burns Hall.

MISSION REPORT
The National Executive reports that over the last 3 years $80,000 has been raised by APW for PCANZ Global Mission work and a further $35,000 towards Turakina Maori Girls College for scholarships; PCANZ Youth Ministry and others. In addition close to $136,000 has been raised for Special Projects in New Zealand. Financial Donations: National APW Special Project; Friends of children in Hospital ( Dunedin); Prison Chaplaincy Fund.


CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 9th
